The Deans’ Council held its third meeting of 2025 (No. 2025/3) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 8:30 AM Sudan local time via Google Meet. The meeting was chaired by Professor Nasr Al-Din Mohamed Ahmed Sharif, the University President, with the participation of Dr. Ashraf Ezzeldin Shaqadi, Vice President of the University, Professor Ibtihal Jamal Al-Din, Secretary of Academic Affairs, along with the deans of various faculties and directors of administrative departments.
The session began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a warm welcome from the University President. He extended his congratulations to all attendees on the arrival of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and the upcoming Eid al-Adha. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Damage Assessment Committee for their tireless efforts in documenting the destruction the university suffered due to the war.
Professor Sharif highlighted the university’s "Reconstruction Initiative," emphasizing the critical importance of rebuilding and repairing what was lost.
The council members engaged in an in-depth discussion on the immense challenges facing the university as a result of the widespread damage and destruction caused by the conflict. A comprehensive report from the Damage and Loss Assessment Committee was reviewed, followed by extensive deliberation on strategies and arrangements needed for the university’s reconstruction.
The council prioritized several key aspects of the reconstruction plan, including:
Reactivating university campuses
Ensuring access to water and electricity
Maintenance and restoration of facilities
Formation of a dedicated Reconstruction Committee
Additionally, the council discussed launching four major initiatives to support the rebuilding efforts:
A student-driven initiative led by faculties and the Dean of Students Affairs
An alumni initiative through their respective faculties
A partnership initiative with local and international supporters
A staff initiative to mobilize contributions from university employees
The council also explored potential methods and channels for securing the necessary funding for the comprehensive reconstruction project.
In closing, heartfelt thanks were extended to the Damage Assessment Committee for their remarkable and impactful work. The University President also expressed his sincere appreciation to all attendees for their active participation and commitment.
